Andre Kertesz

Andre was a freelance photographer for many different mass-circulation magazines. His independent photographs became popular after his death. His work is majorally historically themed since its potter. His work is also focused on abstract shapes and surrealism.

Here we see an arm coming out of an engine fan. The mix of the
mechanical and human body really represents his style.

The lined up birds with the shadow once again make you think of the
postwar theme he goes for. They almost represent soldiers.

Dorothea Lange

Dorothea was a photographer during the great depression. She would photograph the unemployed and lots of farmers. He photographs are mostly portraits with a simple background. I think its so that we focus on the subject and the emotions they portray.

Here we have a photograph of a mother with two children hiding their face on her shoulders. The emotions are very present. You can imagine the story behind it considering what time period this was taken in.

This portrait is called "damaged child". The simple background lets you focus on the emotions that this girl gives out.
